Hot water cylinders are one of the biggest contributors to energy costs. 

 

With Meridian’s Smart Hot Water programme, you will enjoy a $10 credit on your bill each month.   

 

Your hot water cylinder likely doesn’t need to heat continuously as cylinders are great at retaining heat. By switching supply off to your hot water cylinder twice a day and at certain times of the day your hot water supply should remain hot for when you need it, plus we can reduce demand on the grid during peak times.

 

Many homes are already part of a network where line companies manage hot water cylinders to balance grid demand. At Meridian, we take it further by passing these savings directly onto you by giving you a $10 credit onto you bill each month.

Please be aware that if you have any additional appliances or systems wired to the control register of your meter that controls your hot water cylinder, such as underfloor, pool or nightstore heating, these will also be affected.

How do you manage my hot water cylinder?

We work with trusted metering partners to switch eligible Hot Water cylinders on and off remotely through your smart meter.

What if my hot water is gas-heated?

Smart Hot Water is only available to homes with electricity-heated hot water cylinders 

Will I run out of hot water?

It’s very unlikely that you will run out of hot water.

Most cylinders can handle your household’s daily use while being switched off for up to eight hours per day.

Can I opt-out?

Yes, you can opt-out anytime by emailing us. Please allow up to 2 business days so we can process your request.  

What do I get for being on Smart Hot Water?

You’ll receive a $10 credit on your bill each month you’re on the programme. Credit will be applied to your account in the first week of each month for the period month. If you cancel at any time during the month, you will not receive the credit for that month. 

Is my home eligible for Smart Hot Water?

To join, you’ll need: 

  • To be an existing Meridian Freedom Plan customer or sign up now to join Meridian on our Freedom Plan. 

  • To live in an area managed by a participating energy network company.  

  • To have an eligible smart meter.
